Description

Digital Multitrack Recorders

iZ Radar V Nyquist Hard disk recording system, available as a 24- or 48-track package. Each rock-solid RADAR V Nyquist records 24 tracks of pristine Pro Tools-compatible 24 bit/96k timestamped Broadcast WAV audio. It uses SATA drives in removable sleds, or inexpensive external eSATA drives which are up to 6 times faster than FireWire. If your mix system doesn't have eSATA yet, use a drive enclosure with multiple connectors (eSATA/USB2/FireWire), or do a quick FTP copy over Gigabit ethernet to any drive. Also, RADAR's Dual RAID mode can record directly to two identical drives for instant backup.

RADAR has everything in one unit for instant setup: the recorder, A/D, D/A, digital I/O (AES, S/PDIF, TDIF, ADAT), hard drives, DVD-RAM burner, timecode sync and power. Multiple units are easily linked together for 48 tracks, 72 or more. The dedicated hardware Session Controller offers one-function/one-button control for most tasks, and a real 48-channel, 20-segment meterbridge. An LCD monitor displays full waveforms, timecode and status. But there's no computer, no buggy software, and no track count reduction at high sample rates. It's the best of both worlds!

When using all analog inputs at line level, this mixer can handle 6 mono and 6 stereo inputs; or 10 mono and 2 stereo inputs. Each mono input has insert, rolloff, 3-band EQ (12k hi shelf, sweepable 120-4k mid, 80Hz lo shelf), 4 aux sends, pan, mute, pre-fader solo and 100mm fader. Each stereo input has 2-band EQ (12k hi shelf, 80Hz lo shelf), 4 aux sends (2 are switchable as stereo), balance, mute, pre-fader solo and 100mm fader. For more on this mixer's outputs and USB interface, see this entry in Silent Way's Mixer Output Guide.
Roland M-480 48 mono input (or 24 stereo in) line-level rackmounted mixer with no mic preamps. This mixer uses an ingenious method to fit 48 channels in a compact frame. It has independent input gain for all 48 ins, but only 24 knobs for channel level to master. Essentially it has 24 stereo inputs which have independent input gain/pan/trim/mute on EACH of the 48 mono inputs. The level to the mix, solo and bus assignments are in pairs. Inputs are unbalanced 1/4" (switchable +4 or -20 dBm). Also has seven stereo returns which can be used as additional inputs for a total of 62 (48 mono plus 14) inputs! Has 6 aux sends (4 post-fader, 2 switchable pre/post globally) and solo (latching cue) on each of the 24 pairs. Also, all busses (master, sub out, monitor out, aux out and eff out) can be daisy-chained with another mixer to make an even bigger mixer. Master XLR out is Pin 3 hot.

AKG C3000 Multi-pattern condenser mic (cardioid, hypercardioid), aka C3000 mkI, made from 1993-1999.
NOTE: This is NOT the newer, lesser, cheaper C3000B nor the C3000(2009). From 1999-2009, AKG made the cardioid-only, single-capsule C3000B, a stripped down version of the original C3000. Then in 2009, AKG released a new version of the lesser C3000B and for some reason named it... C3000! Here's how to tell them apart: the newer C3000(2009) has switches on the side and is cardioid-only, while the original C3000 has switches on the back to select the pickup pattern and has two capsules inside. Read more about the original C3000 mic here and here. *LC
AKG D 190 E Cardioid dynamic microphone with a rugged sintered bronze cap that doubles as a windscreen. Recommended for many applications, proven general-purpose microphone for decades. The cardioid pattern controls feedback in live sound applications and rejects unwanted noise in recording use. Its smooth frequency response makes the D 190 E equally suitable for general purpose speech or instrument applications. Rugged construction, shock mounted transducer capsule, frequency response optimized for intelligibility of speech.
