Hi all,

First post - thanks to SilentWay for the great info resource.

I was curious if anyone has had experience with the S-Err 41 error on a DA78HR and if you did, what did it take ($$ and time) to get it straightened out.

I have one machine that will start to rewind, but as it goes into fast rewind it stops and gives the error. Once again, thanks for the great resource and hard to find info.

I don't know if the DA-78HR uses the same error codes as the original DA-88, but the DA-88's S-err 41 means:
"The solenoid does not engage during FF/REW (100x speed)."

and, the DA-98's S-err 41 is
"Unable to latch solenoid on FF/REW winding."

The other DA-88 and DA-98 errs seems similar, perhaps just a different japanese-to-english translation.

And since your error is also FF/REW-related, it sounds like the DA-78HR might use the same codes. That's a major issue that should be fixed by a pro.

I've got the rest of the DA-88's error codes listed here:

Thanks Tony. I figured as much, do you have any idea what a repair like that might cost and most importantly do you know of any good service centers here in the (still frozen) Northeast. Thanks a bunch.

Sorry, can't help on either of those topics. Check with Tascam to find an authorized repair center in your nearest big metro city. Make sure to ask about turn-around time. It might end up being easier/cheaper/quicker to send it to Tascam. Parts can be hard to get when needed, even by authorized service centers.

All the best
