Stable to use 3x MOTU 8 Pre interfaces?
Greetings,
I have a quick question for you. Do you think it is stable to use 3x Motu 8 Pre interfaces with Logic 8 and a G5 2.0 dual to record live shows?
Best Regards.
Probably not a good idea since the MOTU 8Pre does not have word clock input or output.
A few years back I used a series of MOTU 896HD FireWire interfaces to get a lot of simultaneous recording tracks. When there were more than two interfaces, it wasn't reliable until I added an external word clock generator in a "star" configuration. I wrote up an article describing my experiments...

...otherwise, watch out for very brief, fraction of a second dropouts that you might not hear or see at first glance!
That could be good... I like the Octopres I've got, although mine are not the scaled-down LE. Note that the LE can only go up to 48k and uses an external power supply.
I have not used or seen the Profire, but it sounds like a less complicated setup than multiple MOTUs. Can't speak to its stability.
In previous versions of Logic, it was unable to see multiple FireWire interfaces (Apple OS limitation). But I think that's finally been implemented. If not, or with older versions of Logic/Mac OS, the ProFire might be better than multiple MOTUs.
Nice one. Yes, word clock is a must..
How about this:
G5-2.0 dual-4 gigs/ 2nd 500 gig eternal drive for recording/ Logic 8/
10.4.11 OSX
+ 3x Focusrite Octpre LE with ADAT I/O.
+ M-Audio Profire Lightbridge 32 ADAT I/O
Stable?
Best Regards.
