Hi there. Im new here but i have a problem.

I have a pair of DA 88's, 1 with sy88 card and Cakewalk Sonar 3 producer edition.

I want to sync the da88's and the pc. How do i do this please?

I have a soundblaster audigy 2 zs sound card.

Thanks

The Audigy 2 ZS does not have any smpte cabilities. You would need a separate sync unit for that. You might try using MIDI timecode, as it does have MIDI in/out.

What smtpe add ons are there for my setup? And how do i go about setting up the midi timecode?

Do i need to stripe a channel on the da88? or IF i run the timecode on cakewalk will the da88 recognise the code?

Also do i just connect it up with midi leads? midi out of sound card to midi in on sy88 snc card?

Thanks

I can't answer all of your Qs, you should probably talk to Sonar support:
http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/

There are a bunch of USB/FireWire interfaces that have SMPTE in/out by MOTU and others, check my list of interfaces:
http://www.silentway.com/interfaces

If you're buying a box anyway, it's not much more to get an audio interface with SMPTE, rather than a dedicated SMPTE interface. And there are many more audio interfaces (with SMPTE) to choose from. It's important to pick one that is compatible with your software of choice (Sonar, etc.)

That's a sonar question. For the DA-88 side of things, see the manuals for the SY-88:
http://clients.silentway.com/sw/manuals/SY-88.PDF
http://clients.silentway.com/sw/manuals/SY-88V4.pdf

No, you can just translate the ABS internal code to TC, see the SY-88 manuals again.

Once you have the physical connection/interface issue set up, it should work in either direction. The choice will likely be determined by some limiting factor that one method has which the other doesn't.

Hi again. Just thought id let you know how i got on.

Ive spent this morning hooking it all up and reading lots of manuals, and ive finally got it up and running.

I found that there was a dip switch on the back of the sy88 that needed to be up (dip switch #2) and that the tc function needed to read t.out Abs.

Sonar was reading timecode from the generate button, but wouldnt sync to the project because you cant press generate and play at the same time.

So like i say, i did the above and its working A++++ now.

Thanks alot
