Tascam DA88 to Sonar 3. Timecode setup
Fri, 02/18/2005 - 12:30
Hi there. Im new here but i have a problem.
I have a pair of DA 88's, 1 with sy88 card and Cakewalk Sonar 3 producer edition.
I want to sync the da88's and the pc. How do i do this please?
I have a soundblaster audigy 2 zs sound card.

The Audigy 2 ZS does not have any smpte cabilities. You would need a separate sync unit for that. You might try using MIDI timecode, as it does have MIDI in/out.

I can't answer all of your Qs, you should probably talk to Sonar support:

There are a bunch of USB/FireWire interfaces that have SMPTE in/out by MOTU and others, check my list of interfaces:
If you're buying a box anyway, it's not much more to get an audio interface with SMPTE, rather than a dedicated SMPTE interface. And there are many more audio interfaces (with SMPTE) to choose from. It's important to pick one that is compatible with your software of choice (Sonar, etc.)

That's a sonar question. For the DA-88 side of things, see the manuals for the SY-88:

No, you can just translate the ABS internal code to TC, see the SY-88 manuals again.

Once you have the physical connection/interface issue set up, it should work in either direction. The choice will likely be determined by some limiting factor that one method has which the other doesn't.
