Notes:

"Islandora is an open-source software framework designed to help institutions and organizations and their audiences collaboratively manage, and discover digital assets using a best-practices framework." "Built on a base of Drupal, Fedora, and Solr, Islandora releases solution packs which empower users to work with data types (such as image, video, and pdf) and knowledge domains (such as Chemistry and the Digital Humanities). Solution packs also often provide integration with additional viewers, editors, and data processing applications."

Islandora is a system built upon three open source projects: Fedora (repository back end), Drupal (website, content management and discovery) and Solr (enterprise search). These are integrated together in one distribution package. Drupal is arguably the top open source content management platform for building scalable community websites. While Islandora is built on three popular systems, something to investigate further is whether this particular combination has a wide enough user base and developer community. Islandora offers “solution packs” to add features. The “The Audio Solution Pack” and “Video Solution Pack” would be used for MAM functionality.
