Here's a reference chart for wiring Category 5 (Cat 5) ethernet cables for 10/100 BaseT. When buying raw cable, note that for Gigabit Ethernet, you may need Cat5(e). For further detail on Cat5, Cat5e and Cat6, see this wikipedia article.
